A Maple Avenue home was hit with pink paint in an incident caught on surveillance video, police received reports of two stolen bicycles, and a woman was charged with shoplifting at a CVS on Claremont Avenue. Here’s what was reported in the Montclair Police Department blotter for September 22 through September 29.
Pink Paint thrown at a Maple Avenue home caught on surveillance camera
On September 29, a Maple Avenue resident told police she left her home around 12:20 p.m. and returned at approximately 1 p.m. to find pink paint on her front door and porch.
According to police, surveillance footage showed a man wearing a gray hoodie and gray sweatpants getting out of the passenger side of a white van. The man approached the property carrying a paint can in his left hand, stopped at the sidewalk and threw the can at the home.
He then returned to the van, which continued northbound on Maple Avenue.
Police classified the incident as criminal mischief.
Two Montclair bike thefts reported in one week, including a middle schooler’s
Police received reports of two stolen bicycles during the blotter period.
On September 25, a man reported leaving his bicycle unsecured on the lower level of the Midtown Parking Deck on Glenridge Avenue at approximately 6:20 p.m. When he returned around 7 p.m., the bike was gone.
The bicycle was described as a neon green hybrid valued at approximately $450.
The following day, a Glenfield Middle School student reported a separate bicycle theft. The student told police he had ridden his bike to school on September 11 and locked it to a bike rack. When he returned to retrieve it a few days later, the bicycle was missing, although the lock and helmet remained.
The bike was described as a moss green Woom Now 6 with a red front basket and staggered wheels. Police said it was valued at approximately $600.
Woman Charged With Shoplifting at CVS
On September 29, police charged a 33-year-old Irvington woman with shoplifting at the CVS on Claremont Avenue.
Police said she was accused of taking approximately $134 worth of merchandise.
Other Thefts Reported
On September 23, employees at the Acme supermarket on Valley Road reported that a man entered the store at approximately 10:30 a.m. and stole about $130 worth of steaks, ground turkey and shrimp.
Police described the man as approximately 45 years old, with an average build, shaved head and no facial hair. He was reportedly wearing a gray jacket, blue jeans and white sneakers and had glasses on top of his head.
On September 25, a Claremont Avenue resident reported a package theft. The resident told police she had made two online purchases and received confirmation that both packages had been delivered. When she went to retrieve them, one was missing.
Police said the stolen package contained a dress valued at approximately $400.
