A Cedar Avenue man told police on October 30 that about $7,000 in cash had disappeared from his closet, tucked in a suit jacket pocket and wrapped in yoga pants. The theft leads this week’s Montclair police blotter, which covers October 27 through November 3 and also includes a bouncer bitten outside Just Jake’s on Halloween, a cash grab from an unlocked SUV on Forest Street and a stolen BMW found parked at the Acme on Valley Road.
$7,000 in cash stolen from a Cedar Avenue closet
The man told police no one had access to his home except a cleaning crew. The blotter does not say when he last saw the money, whether anyone has been questioned or whether he has a suspect.
Bouncer bitten outside Just Jake’s on Park Street
On October 31, an employee at Just Jake’s told police a woman tried to get past the bouncer at the front door. When he stopped her, she bit him on the arm and ran north on Park Street.
Montclair EMS cleaned the wound at the scene. The bouncer declined further medical attention, and the blotter does not say whether the woman has been identified.
Montclair car thefts: an unlocked Mitsubishi and a stolen BMW at the Acme
A woman on Forest Street reported on October 28 that someone got into her unlocked 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander overnight and took a small amount of cash. Surveillance cameras show a young man on a bicycle, in his late teens or early 20s, riding up to the car from the dead end of Forest Street, getting in and then heading south on Forest. He wore a hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.
The same day, officers patrolling the Acme parking lot on Valley Road spotted an unoccupied red, white and blue BMW M4. It had been reported stolen in Oakland, N.J. The owners arrived soon after, and police turned the car over to them.
