A man allegedly followed two women down Claremont Avenue while exposing himself last week, an incident that ended in his arrest on two counts of lewdness. This week’s Montclair police blotter, covering September 1 through September 8, also included a shoplifting incident at CVS, stolen license plates and approximately $20,000 in missing jewelry.
Lewdness arrest made on Claremont Avenue
Patrol officers responded to the 200 block of Claremont Avenue on September 6 after a report of a man following two women while exposing himself. A description was broadcast, and officers located a man matching it nearby with his front zipper down.
The two victims positively identified him, according to police. Officers arrested the suspect, a 36-year-old Montclair man, and charged him with two counts of lewdness.
Montclair resident reports $20,000 in missing jewelry
An Inwood Avenue resident was sorting jewelry in her jewelry box on September 4 when she discovered several pieces were missing. She told police the missing jewelry was worth approximately $20,000.
The blotter does not identify a suspect or say when or how the jewelry went missing.
CVS shoplifting suspect leaves with $284 in merchandise
A CVS Pharmacy employee on Claremont Avenue reported that a man entered the store at approximately 3 p.m. on September 8 and proceeded through the aisles placing merchandise into a shopping cart before exiting without paying.
Police described the suspect as a Hispanic male wearing a white hat, white graphic T-shirt, black shorts and black shoes. He also appeared to have a sleeve tattoo on his left arm.
Police said he fled in a Toyota Sienna van with $284 worth of merchandise.
A dropped wallet and stolen license plates round out the week
A man reported dropping his wallet outside the 7-Eleven on Bloomfield Avenue on September 4. When he realized it was missing and returned to the area, he could not find it.
Surveillance video showed an unknown man picking up the wallet and walking away in an unknown direction.
Two days later, on Brooklawn Avenue, someone removed the California license plates from a 2009 Dodge Challenger. Police believe the theft happened overnight.
The blotter provides no detailed suspect description in either case.
