What’s Happening in Montclair This Weekend: A Food Tour, Comedy at the Book Center and More

Chow Town’s popular Montclair food tour runs a special edition with the Montclair History Center, Laughs on the Books is back at Montclair Book Center for its ninth installment, and Out & Active heads to Caldwell for Porchfest. Friday night has a sip-and-paint at Wine & Design, and Sunday brings a moms’ meetup in Newark. Here’s what’s worth your time September 11 through 13.

Sip & Paint: Cider Still Life at Wine & Design

Friday, September 11, 8 p.m. | Wine & Design, 1 Greenwood Ave., Suite 101 | $39

Wine & Design’s Friday evening class features a cider still life painting on a pre-sketched canvas, guided step by step by a local artist. Two hours, music playing, BYOB. Wine glasses and opener provided; no hard liquor. Doors open 15 minutes before start. Ages 16 and up; 21 and up to drink. Free parking in the studio lot off Glenridge Avenue. 

Montclair In Motion Food Tour with the Montclair History Center

Saturday, September 12, 1 to 4 p.m. | Meets on Bloomfield Ave. | $95 per person

Chow Town’s Montclair food tour is one of the better ways to spend a Saturday afternoon in this town, and the September 12 edition is a special one: the three-hour walking tour runs in partnership with the Montclair History Center, whose guides add historical context to a route that covers Brazilian comfort food, Sicilian pizza, oversized cookies and more along Bloomfield Avenue. The tour covers about 1.5 miles at an easy pace with a gentle incline. It’s a good one for visitors and longtime residents alike. Book at chowtownfoodtours.com.

Caldwell Porchfest Walking Tour with Out & Active

Saturday, September 12, 1:30 to 4 p.m. | 15 Whitfield St., Caldwell | Free

Out & Active, the North Jersey-based LGBT Meetup group, is heading to Caldwell Porchfest on Saturday afternoon, where local musicians perform from residential front porches throughout the neighborhood. The group’s meetup spot is 15 Whitfield Street, where She’s All That, billed as the ultimate Jersey Girl party band, plays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., followed by a Nirvana tribute band from 2:45 to 4 p.m. Bring a blanket or folding chair, water and sunscreen. Come and go as you please. 

Laughs on the Books IX at Montclair Book Center

Saturday, September 12, 8 to 9:30 p.m. | Montclair Book Center, 221 Glenridge Ave. | Tickets required, BYOB

Laughs on the Books returns for its ninth installment at Montclair Book Center on Saturday night with a diverse lineup of comics whose credits include Dry Bar, Netflix and the Comedy Cellar. Doors at 7:30 p.m.; the show starts promptly at 8 and late arrivals may not be seated. BYOB. Refunds available up to three days before the event. 

Cups & Connections at Kira’s Kupcake Kafe (Newark)
