A stolen wallet’s digital tracker led its owner straight to two different Newark street corners last week, one of six incidents in this week’s Montclair police blotter that also included a failed iPhone sale that turned into a grab-and-run theft, two vehicle vandalism reports and an arrest on South Park Street. The week’s reports span September 8 through September 15.
A tracked wallet leads police toward Newark
A man on Church Street realized his wallet was missing on September 11 and checked a digital tracker he kept inside it. The tracker placed it first near Summer Avenue, then along Mayor Kenneth Gibson Boulevard, both in Newark. No suspect has been identified.
Attempted iPhone sale turns into a theft on Bloomfield Avenue
A man walked into Faraj Enterprise on Bloomfield Avenue on September 8 hoping to sell an Apple iPhone 16. Employees turned him down because he lacked the proper credentials for the sale. He got upset, reached behind the counter and grabbed a pair of earphones valued at $80 before running east on Bloomfield Avenue.
Police describe him as heavyset, 6 feet tall, bald, wearing a gray short sleeve shirt and green shorts.
Cash stolen from a backpack during a South Park Street dispute
A man on South Park Street told police he lost $10 on September 12 after an argument with another man escalated. The other man reached into his backpack and took the cash before walking off west on Bloomfield Avenue. Police describe him as having white hair, wearing jeans and a white T-shirt.
Two vehicles vandalized within a week of each other
A Prospect Avenue resident found the front left and rear right lamp units on his car broken on September 8, after the vehicle sat parked overnight on the street. The damage came to an estimated $700.
Six days later, a vehicle on Bloomfield Avenue was scratched, possibly with a key, sometime between 11 p.m. and 11 a.m. No estimate was given for that one, and no suspect has been named in either case.
Arrest made after a South Park Street dispute
A 54-year-old West Orange man was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest on September 14 following a dispute on South Park Street. The department gave no detail on what the resistance involved. It is the only named arrest in this week’s blotter.
