A man walked into HotBirds on Bloomfield Avenue at 8:44 a.m. on October 20, took about $500 from the cash register and walked back out within a minute, according to this week’s Montclair police blotter. The report covers October 20 through October 27 and also includes a late-night medication theft at the CVS on Claremont Avenue and two arrests that followed disputes on Greenwood Avenue and Walnut Street.

Surveillance footage shows the man coming in through the front door of the Nashville hot chicken restaurant, which rebranded from Rooster’s Nashville Hot Chicken. He walked to the register, took out the cash, put it in his pocket and left. Police listed the incident as a burglary.

Police describe him as bald and of medium build, in his late 30s or 40s, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black boots.

Two days later, employees at the CVS on Claremont Avenue told police a man came in at 12:11 a.m. on October 22 and went straight to the medication aisle. He filled a shopping bag and was gone by 12:13 a.m. Police valued the medication at $471.99.

He wore a black zip-up hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, white sneakers and a blue surgical mask, police said. He carried a dark handled bag printed with what appeared to be a Christmas wreath and the words “thank you.”

Who was arrested in Montclair this week?

On October 23, police charged a 36-year-old Montclair man with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest following a dispute on Greenwood Avenue.

The next day, police charged a 31-year-old Montclair woman with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on a police officer following a dispute on Walnut Street. The blotter does not describe what led to either dispute.
