Mark Sceurman

Mark Sceurman is the founder and co-publisher of Weird N.J., the offbeat travel guide and magazine devoted to New Jersey's local legends, urban folklore, and best-kept secrets. He launched the publication in 1989 as a self-published newsletter mailed to a handful of subscribers, drawing on a lifelong fascination with the "underside" of local history—the odd, unwritten stories passed around at diners and old-man bars rather than found in history books. After connecting with photographer Mark Moran, whose dark, moody images captured the eerie feeling Sceurman was after, the two joined forces to grow Weird N.J. into the cult-favorite magazine, book series, and media franchise it is today. Beyond publishing, he's a musician and a sought-after presenter, giving multimedia talks across the state on everything from the paranormal to New Jersey's endless supply of homegrown weirdness.
