Spiral Bound Brings Montclair Creativity to Lincoln Center

Megan O'Donnell December 2, 2025

Local composer, songwriter and performer Miranda Ferriss Jones brings the next evolution of her show Spiral Bound to the Lincoln Center Atrium on December 6.  The performance marks an important milestone for a project that has grown out of Montclair’s creative community. This one-night-only “works in progress” event gives audiences a first look at the next stage of this evolving piece.

Spiral Bound traces its roots to a remarkable source. Between 1968 through 1972, sculptor Richard Edelman filled spiral notebooks with poems about the women who shaped, challenged, and captivated his twenties. When Jones discovered these notebooks in 2021, she immediately connected with the emotional clarity and imagination within them. She selected her favorite poems and transformed them into songs that move through different eras, musical styles, and emotional landscapes. Each piece is a distinct expression of longing. The women at the heart of the work are central figures who refuse to be forgotten.

The event features Jones alongside friend, Montclair Local and Tony Award winner Laura Benanti, Khaila Wilcoxon (Six, Hadestown), guest artists from Sands PACE, and a band featuring Yair Evnine, Sujin Kim-Ramsey, Lee Nadel, and Kasey Blezinger. The visual projections come from Jones’ bus-stop-friend Anne Lac, her husband, and Jones’s husband, Ben Youngerman. More than 15 Montclair moms created hand-collaged notebooks for the event.

The piece premiered at the Montclair Art Museum through the Montclair Theatre Project, then moved to Joe’s Pub in New York City, and will receive a full production in April with the BFA Acting Program at PACE, led by Montclair resident Julie Edsell-Lawrence.

Spiral Bound is a true Montclair story, built on community, creativity, and collaboration.
